The Cult with Culture Wars at History

The Cult made a thunderous return to the city’s live music scene, and their show at History proved to be nothing short of “Electric”. The iconic British rockers brought their anthemic hits and darkly charismatic stage presence delivering a performance that was both nostalgic and exhilarating.

The evening began as the band unleashed a storm with In The Clouds followed by Rise. The crowd roared with excitement as the first riffs of Wild Flower blasted out of Billy Duffy’s amps. While Ian Astbury’s unmistakable, commanding voice charged up the sold out audience. The venue, History, with its intimate yet spacious setting, provided the perfect backdrop for The Cult’s high-octane energy.

The setlist delved into nearly the entire band’s discography. Getting to hear The Witch was a highlight for me. Another rare gem was War (The Process) which hasn’t been played since 2011. Ian and Billy gathered at centre stage for a stripped down acoustic version of Edie (Ciao Baby) before playing a string of fan favourites including Sweet Soul Sister, Fire Woman, Rain and Spiritwalker. Love Removal Machine whipped the crowd into a frenzy at the end of the set.

Brother Wolf, Sister Moon a slow burning, haunting tune kicked off the encore. With a dimly lit stage providing the moody backdrop for the song. The lights got brighter as the intro to She Sells Sanctuary put an exclamation point on a fantastic concert!

It was a wonderful evening of music that reflected The Cult’s evolution over the decades. The hits provided longtime fans with a familiar vibe while newer tracks provided a glimpse into the band’s ongoing creative journey.
