Brett Young And Colbie Caillat Deliver Quiet Vulnerability As They Reimagine JP Saxe And Julia Michaels’ “If The World Was Ending”

Diamond-selling country artist Brett Young teams up with GRAMMY-winning singer-songwriter Colbie Caillat to put their own soulful spin on “If The World Was Ending,” originally performed by JP Saxe and Julia Michaels.

Built around warm acoustic guitar, mandolin, banjo and gentle keys, the reinterpretation leans into the song’s quiet vulnerability and the heartfelt yet heartbreaking premise that first drew Young to the track: the question of who you’d choose to spend your final moments with. Leaning into a gentle, acoustic sound, Young allows his audience to reflect with him through a deeply resonant delivery that illuminates the pair’s harmonies and amplifies the song’s emotional roots. Stripped back and atmospheric, the Noah Needleman-produced track highlights their honeyed harmonies and inherent vocal chemistry, resulting in a rendition that feels timeless yet immediate – a reflective, heart-stirring take on a modern classic that lingers long after the final verse.

“I’ve always been a big fan of this song and its message about who you might want to spend your last hours with,” said Young. “I love the way this turned out, and I’m really excited to have our version of it out in the world.”
Caillat adds, “I was already a fan of Brett’s music before we became friends in Nashville, and getting to work together on this felt really special. It’s such a beautiful song, and the lyrics really make you think about who you’d want to spend your last days with, and who would want to spend them with you.”
