On opening duties for The Mowgli’s, was New Jersey’s River City Extension, in Toronto for the third time. Anchored by Joe Michelini, the six-piece make the kind of sweaty, fist-pumping rock that requires a beer in hand. It’s not anthemic per se, but it’s certainly energetic and favours guitar riffs, cymbals, and bass solos on the E string. They brought with them big endings, well executed tempo changes, and a sound far better than an opening slot might suggest. Some beer company should sponsor them to tour with Toronto-based rockers Wildlife. It’d be great.
