Below The Ground

“Don’t Get Taken” by Acid Dad

So last week I discovered “Don’t Get Taken” by Acid Dad, but I didn’t think it was the one. I listened to it a bit more, and little did I know how much I would actually get into it. In conclusion, I have been listening to it numerous times every day, and it grew on me way more than I ever imagined.

They describe themselves as a “Psych-Punk” band, and are from New York City. They released their debut EP “Fool’s Gold” on February 26th, 2016. Newsweek named the EP one of their “Nine February Albums We Can’t Wait to Listen To”, which says a lot. The band has only been “alive” for approximately a year and a half, which has me astounded by the sound that they have already achieved. If they already sound THIS rad, what will they sound like in five years? Probably ten times better.

This tune reminds me of something by The Modern Lovers. I would basically describe it as your basic Indie-Rock tune, but definitely one that deserves more recognition. This song has a really catchy riff, and beat overall. However, the vocals are not anything obnoxious but I don’t think its something that is a necessity. It most definitely has a vintage-grunge feel to it, which is what I find so attractive about this song considering that is one of my preferred genres. I find the ending a tad rushed, but it doesn’t ruin the song. This is definitely a song you can put on repeat.
