Vancouver’s genre-defying Psychedelic Cumbia and Salsa ensemble, Empanadas Ilegales, have released their highly anticipated third album, Sancocho Trifásico, via We Are Time.
“This album reflects our journey—trusting our instincts, evolving our sound, and staying true to what moves us. We hope it brings a sense of joy, freedom, and connection wherever it lands,” says Empanadas Ilegales. “We express our deepest gratitude to those who came before us—our musical heroes—whose sounds and spirit paved the way…Long live the Sancocho Trifásico.”
To coincide with the release, they unveil the video for standout track, “Bailecito de MORD,” a tribute to Toronto’s beloved venue, DROM Taberna (its name a playful nod to DROM, spelled backward), where the band has performed many unforgettable shows. The visual was a spontaneous post-show document, with dancers embracing a fusion of cumbia, lambada, zouk and champeta.
