The Devil Wears Prada at The Phoenix – December 20, 2013

The Devil Wears Prada closed out their 8:18 winter tour in Toronto, playing to a sold out show at The Phoenix. The tour was in support of their new album 8:18, which hit stores September 17th.

They kicked off the night with their song ‘Gloom’ which is the opening track to their new album, followed by ‘Escape’ and ‘Anatomy’ which comes off of their Zombie EP.

The setlist  was heavily focused on their newer material, and I have to admit that I was a little disappointed to see that none of the songs from their first two albums made the cut this time around. On a brighter note, these guys have an amazing stage presence as they radiated this energy that got everyone in the venue moving during their set. It was great to see them play at the Phoenix, as last time I caught one of their headliner shows was back in 2010 at the Kool Haus. This show felt much more intimate and you could tell that their fans were having a ball as many of them crowd surfed to the front to try and hi-five lead vocalist Mike Hranica.

As the night came to a close, Prada ended their set with ‘Dead Throne’ and ‘Mammoth’. After their set, it was really nice to see how Hrancia stayed back after the lights came back on to shake hands with the fans and thank them for coming out to the show.
