Governors Ball 2015 Day 1: Drake, Florence + The Machine, St. Vincent, Charli XCX, Rae Sremmurd

The fifth annual Governors Ball Music Festival on Randall’s Island in New York City kicked off last night with a big impact.

Headlining day 1 was Toronto’s Drake. With much dispute, he defended and proved that he deserved to be on the top of the bill. In contrast to other acts earlier that day with accompanying band mates, Drake took to the stage on his own. From the get go, his entire 75-minute perform was charismatic and always exciting. It’s great to see Canadian artist headline such a large international festival.

Drizzy proclaimed that the audience of 50,000 was the best festival crowd he’s ever seen in his entire life.

Friday’s lineup also saw the queen of peace Florence + The Machine in support of her latest album How Big, How Blue, How Beautiful. Everyone in attendance could feel the passion and energy in her voice, even with a broken foot from Coachella.

St. Vincent was chaotic and beautiful all at the same time, Charli XCX got the crowd screaming “pussy power” and rocked with a giant inflatable guitar, Rae Sremmurd got the hip-hop lovers going. Festival-goers were also treated to the likes of Chromeo, and Odesza.
