Panamania has officially been unleashed onto the city of Toronto. To help celebrate the games being hosted in and around the Toronto area, the organizers have set up some wonderful free shows to keep the party going between the events.
On Monday night hometown hero, Lights, kept everyone on their Toes as she graced the stage at the CIBC Pan Am Park for a free show. People filled up the park as they anxiously awaited Lights to hit the stage. Once 9:30 rolled around, the intro to ‘Peace Sign’ started to play and the crowd began to rush to the barricade to try and get closer to the front.
Looking around at the crowd, it was really awesome to see how diverse the crowd was, and pretty much everyone was singing along to Lights’ set. During ‘Sibera’, I even noticed a few of the security guards dancing as well. You know it’s a great performance when even the security guards are dancing along to the songs.
One thing I found really cool about Lights’ set was that when she was on the stage without her band, she asked the fans what song they would like to hear. They had a choice between ‘Savior’ and ‘Ice’, in which ‘Savior’ was chosen and then performed on piano. Along with newer songs, fans were also treated to old favourites such as February Air and Drive My Soul, songs that have landed Lights onto the Canadian Charts as well as sweep up some Junos Awards.
As the night came to a close, Lights finished her set with ‘Up We Go’, which comes off of her latest album Little Machines and ‘Banner’.
