Red Hot Chilli Peppers at the KeyBank Center

The Red Hot Chili Peppers show at The KeyBank Center in Buffalo on Friday evening proved that after more than 30 years, The Red Hot Chili Peppers still put on an amazing show. Even Anthony Kiedis’s boot cast didn’t seem to slow him down one bit.

The production of the show was quite unique. They had LED cylindrical lamps that lined the ceiling of the venue that formed different patterns and followed the beat of every song.  It really added a new level of production to the show. Along with that, they had giant LED screens projecting colourful animations and live shots of the band.

They opened their set with a four minute jam session that merged into ”Can’t Stop” followed by “Dani California” and “Scar Tissue”. Their 17 song set was packed with many of their hit songs along with a few other songs from their catalog. Flea, Josh Klinghoffer and Anthony Kiedis covered a lot of ground on the stage, each spending time interacting with the crowd on both sides of the stage. Even Chad Smith found ways to interact with the crowd from behind his drum set. At one point Flea broke out into a freestyle song about being “Low in Buffalo”, and that really gave the crowd a laugh. It seemed like these guys still really enjoy what they are doing.

The Red Hot Chili Peppers ended off their set with an extended version of “Give it Away” bringing a lot of energy to the stage for the final song. After almost 10 years since Red Hot Chili Peppers had played in Buffalo, I think this show really made up for it.
