Deep Purple with Alice Cooper at Budweiser Stage

Alice Cooper stole the show at the Budweiser Stage in Toronto as he opened up for Deep Purple on Saturday night. It has been a while since the Godfather of Shock Rock had last graced Toronto with his presence, but you could instantly see that the GTA was eagerly waiting for his return.

As a curtain portraying the classic Alice Cooper spider-eyes dropped to the ground, Cooper opened up his set with ‘Brutal Planet’ as he appeared on stage in front of a waterfall of sparklers. During the performance of ‘Billion Dollar Babies’, fans were showered with custom $100 bills which featured Cooper’s face as he made his way across the stage. The gimmicks didn’t just end there as Cooper danced and fought with a lifeless dummy during ‘Cold Ethyl’, before bringing out his wife Sheryl Cooper for the performance of ‘Only Women Bleed’. Wrapping up his set, fans were treated to the performance of ‘School’s Out’ as bubbles and large balloons filled the air.

Headlining the night was English rockers, Deep Purple. The band opened up their set with ‘Highway Star’ before performing songs such as ‘Strange Kind of Woman’, ‘Knocking at Your Backdoor’, and ‘Perfect Strangers’.

It was a bit strange to see Deep Purple perform right after Alice Cooper. Due to the theatrics of Cooper’s set, Deep Purple didn’t seem to be captivating the crowd in the same manner. As the night came to a close, the band had the crowd belting out the lyrics to their hit ‘Smoke On The Water’.
