Victoria based Carmanah is set to release their debut album Speak in Rhythms, but you can hear it exclusively here on Live in Limbo first. The band fuses blues with folk tendencies in an intoxicating fashion. The album lures you in with the debut single Roots, with its finger snapping beat and plucky guitar playing. From the top of the album the grooves wash over your ears as the band makes music perfect for walking around town with your headphones turned up high. Songs alternate between being lustful and lyrics that seem pealed from a diary to weave narratives. Lead singer Laura Mina has the charm and seduction of Ann Wilson (Heart) and the band builds on the neo blues style that Alabama Shakes have helped popularize in recent years. The album comes out February 9th, but enjoy it before anyone else can! The band plays Toronto March 14th at The Rivoli. Check out their site for more tour dates.
