Marlon Chaplin with Beautiful Nothing and Letters From Pluto at Supermarket, CMW 2018

Thursday night at Supermarket in Kensington was essentially a showcase filled with artists who have premiered their music on Live in Limbo, making it a fun must see evening for fans of the site.

Edmonton local, Letters From Pluto made her Toronto debut during CMW at Supermarket before jetting out to play a second show of the night at the Piston. Her indie pop draws influences from spacey acts like M83 with tons of fun synth riffs to backing her breezy vocals. Drawing heavily from her self titled EP from 2016 the set had the crowd grooving along. She finished her set with her brand new single Stop and Stare, which the music video for was released on LiL on May 2^nd. After her set she gave hugs to most people in the crowd to introduce herself and give out free copies of her EP.

Beautiful Nothing combines 80’s industrial and goth rock with modern up beat alternative rock to create a fascinating fusion that is equally moody and fun to dance to. Drenching their guitars in reverb and effects lead singer Anthony Ludgate roared into the microphone. In a totally great cover, the band played Tears for Fears landmark hit Shout. The band premiered their entire album on LiL just over a year ago.

The last act of the night I saw was Marlon Chaplin who has steadily been making the rounds the last few years. His debut EP Wanderer by Trade made him plenty of fans with his blend of blues, Brit rock and soul. His latest single Elevation is a total rocking blast showing off his fierce guitar chops and in your face singing. Chaplin created lovely harmonies with backing singer Sintja Baba on songs like Annabelle + Someone. Jumping in front of the monitors to be close up the audience, he brought the rock in case anyone was crazy enough to think that it was dead.
