EP Premiere : “La La Love” – Brittany and the Blisstones

The island pop duo Brittany and the Blisstones, made up of the real life duo Brittany Bliss and Reid Givens, pull from their hearts with beautifully crafted songs and open lyrics. Their music is catchy and something you won’t hear anywhere else with influences from pop, reggae, orchestral, rock, jazz, ska, new age, and so much more.

They finally released their debut EP, La La Love, a 5 song compilation of songs that explore the many emotional elements that life has to offer. “La La Love is an exploration of subjective experiences like love, fear, worthiness, doubt, and togetherness,” shares Brittany and Reid. “What we didn’t realize when we wrote the songs, or when we selected them to be on our debut album, was that these songs are really a set of reminders we left for ourselves. It wasn’t until after we finished tracking the songs that we started to realize it.”

Their single “Mermaid” leads off the EP, an ode to the ocean and nature in a reggae meets pop style. It’s so catchy that you find that you’ve stopped what you’re doing and are dancing and humming along. It also happens to be the first song Brittany ever wrote. “Sometimes” has a more chill reggae meets jazz as Brittany sings about mindfulness. “We can’t control what thoughts pop up in our mind, but we have a choice to focus on the good stuff,” Reid adds.

“King Fear” takes on an instrumental pop sound and orchestral elements with the piano leading the melody rather than the ukulele, the signature sound that Brittany and the Blisstones have been known to have, and utilizing the cello. It showcases their range beautifully. It’s about fear and how you can’t let it control you, singing “only you can take back your crown from the king of fear.” We then get the titular track, “La La Love.” It takes us back to an upbeat jazz and reggae style with the ukulele leading the melody and horns. Its positive vibes musically is mirrored in the lyrics about how love is our natural state of being. It goes beyond romantic love and shows us the joy in the small moments in life.

La La Love wraps up with “Ani’s Trees.” This song is a slow ballad guided by the acoustic guitar and carries an acoustic pop vibe. At the climax, we get a marching band kind of feeling with drums and orchestrations. Brittany’s vocals really shine in this song as she sings about finding your inner strength to be who you really are. It’s sultry and mesmerizing to listen to, she almost puts you in a trance.

As a couple, it’s been incredibly intimate and heart-warming to create songs together and this album is a testament to love and trusting that it’s never too late. The songs are reminders to ourselves to: stay in the moment, learn from nature, choose which thoughts to focus on, and broaden our definition and experience of love.”
