Well January was quite a drag for shows, but that doesn’t mean we didn’t have fun for the few that came through town! February while is colder than January, has way hotter can’t miss shows. The shows are a mix of big names in big venues and up and coming acts playing some interesting choices for venues. There really is a little bit of everything for everyone. The Boss is coming back to Toronto and is bringing his trademark 3 hour show with him. He seriously performs well over 30 songs a night, a stamina that younger acts can’t even dare to replicate and he does it in big stadiums. He truly is one of the greatest live acts still working today and everyone should be so lucky to see him once.
February 5 and 6, 2016

Taking the best elements from acts like CSNY and The Allman Brothers and making their own unique blend of rock and roll has paid off huge for the little band from Saskatchewan that got their start from a contest run by Rolling Stone magazine. They are touring in support of their 5th (!) album and have two near sold out shows booked.

The drum and bass producer comes back to Toronto after an explosive set that featured a full backing band. I’m planning on attending not only because the venue is right down the street from where I live, but I’m curious to see this up and coming producer in person on his cleverly named Netsky and Chill tour.

The poppy folk rockers return to Toronto after opening up for X Ambassadors only two months ago as they look to build a name for themselves too. This is a band that looks to grow some hype as they continue to appear on the bottom of festival lineups. I imagine they will have a song featured in a hugely popular commercial in the next year that makes them seem like they are everywhere.

Back in 2013 the dream pop band received a Polaris Prize nomination for their album Ultramarine and unfortunately I haven’t kept up with them since even though they had an album come out last year (Falsework). The band seems to flirt with breaking out big time every few years and hopefully they become a more well-known commodity this year!

The kings of Canadian country ballads are back in town to do a two night stand at Massey Hall in what will be the first of several shows in the TO throughout the year. Jim Cuddy and co keep getting better with age even if they haven’t released a truly great album since 1987’s Outskirts. If you haven’t seen them yet you probably should.

Last LiL Coverage for Wavves and for Best Coast
Much like St. Lucia, Wavves and Best Coast are perfect summer bands with their dreamy melodies and their (mostly) upbeat lyrics. The difference is there will be a sheen of smoke over the Danforth as things will most likely get extra hazy for these Cali Stoner groups, which makes the fact that this is an all ages show a bit head scratching.
