After last year’s epic Broken Social Scene reunion show, the fest hands the reigns over to fellow BSS members Metric to join the also just reunited Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Other great acts include Alvvays, Bahamas, NoName, Japandroids, Charlotte Cardin, Dizzy and Liza Anne. Should be a ton of fun yet again!

Despite (in my opinion) lackluster new album, Boarding House Reach, that came out in March there isn’t a better showman working today. His live show mixes his solo work with songs from his White Stripes, The Raconteurs and the Dead Weather showing his range and immense amount of hits.

The Aussie band released a staggering five albums last year (the last coming out on December 31^st) so I finally gave them a listen to after being terrified by their catalog with the last album, Gumboot Soup. The band is known for having a wild live show as they have put out 13 albums since 2012 making them one of the most prolific acts ever.

Despite early rumblings of some of the opening Championship Tour acts like Lance Skiiiwalker, SiR, Ab-Soul and Jay Rock not getting enough stage time (some as little as 3 songs) seeing Kendrick Lamar, SZA and ScHoolboy Q, the superstars of Top Dawg Entertainment is still worth the admission. Also what is happening with Issiah Rashad? He said he was going to be on tour but I don’t think he has spotted yet.

Jungle was my favourite live act from the very stacked 2015 Bonnaroo. Their show was unlike anything I had ever seen with their blend of funk, RnB and pop music. I’ve been dying to see them ever since and missed the last time they were in Toronto. They are my must see act of the year.

Despite hating everything One Direction put out, I was really impressed with Harry Styles debut solo album, it sounded like a mix of Fleetwood Mac and The Rolling Stones. Him getting Kacey Musgraves adds an air of mature respectability he is craving in order to be taken like a serious musician.

The EDM fest doesn’t have a ton of names I recognize but it certainly has a few that jump out. Getting Kaskade, Armin van Buuren, Galantis and a duel set from Tchami x Mala more than catches my eye. If you are a fan of the big tent fest rave scene, this is a killer group.

I don’t go to a lot of metal or hardcore shows (really ever), but of all the hard rock and punk ones I have seen I have never been more terrified of an act quite like Iceage. These Danish lads are I-N-T-E-N-S-E. But, their latest record, Beyondless, is astounding as they have ditched the fuzzed out vocals and droning guitars for something that resembles melodies and clever lyrics. I’m fascinated to see how this will change their live show.
