The two-block lineup along Danforth Ave can usually give you an idea of what’s happening at the music hall. Tonight felt a little different….
Rock music was definitely on the menu, but the crowd was a blend of genres. This is the result of having some of the most inventive punk bands come to town. A Fire Inside, a.k.a. AFI, has brought their “Holy Visions Tour” in support of their latest release “ Silver Bleeds The Sun Black” to the Historical Danforth Music Hall. An iconic band playing an iconic venue. Can’t wait for the show to begin.
The stage sits quietly with a faint orange glow, just enough light to see the banner showcasing the album art of their 12th studio album. As the band takes the stage, I was instantly transported back to the history this band and I have had together. I have grown up to their music. From the mid-90s hardcore punk days to my dark clothes and black hair in the early 2000s. They have been along for the ride this whole time, which seems to be the case for everyone here with me.
Davey Havoc, the legendary frontman, starts off the night standing on a riser, mic outstretched towards the crowd with “Strength Through Wounding “ off their 1999 Album, Black Sails In The Sunset. The perfect way to get the die-hard fan base screaming back every lyric.
The best part of the night was one of the most surreal concert experiences I’ve ever had. This band is truly loved by everyone in the room, regardless of when they individually found their music. This was my first time seeing them live, and although I would have loved to see them prior, tonight felt like the perfect time. Sharing in the experience of a truly beloved band with people who feel the same way only comes with time. Grateful for the experience!
