Having seen them play at smaller venues in the city it was nice to see the reception they got from the crowd which was the largest and loudest I’ve ever seen for them. Sweet Thing exude charisma. This is not only accentuated by lead vocalist Owen Carrier’s on stage presence, but is a direct result of how much fun the band has playing for a live audience. That kind of fun just flows out into the crowd and grows exponentially. Pair this with some super cacthy tunes and there should be quite a few duotangs across the city baring the band name “Sweet Thing”. Does anyone still use duotangs? Sweet Thing was out in support of their self titled full length debut which includes the infectious “Dance Mother” which is one of my favourite songs of the year, “Change of Seasons” and “Kite Fight”. It was a short set, but it definitely was a Sweet Thing. They will be opening for Metric in Victoria BC on November 14.
Sweet Thing opened up for the Justin Nozuka Band this past weekend at Phoenix Concert Theatre. I’ve had the pleasure of catching Sweet Thing live a couple of times over the last few years. The thing about this band is they have the ability to win over a crowd and/or steal a show.
