After just releasing his new album on June 14th, Owl City embarked on tour to support “All Things Bright And Beautiful”. As fans packed into Kool Haus, you could see that there were mainly families with their children and high school students attending the show. As Owl City’s set approached the chanting from his fans began as they anticipated his entrance, and as soon as he hit the stage the venue went wild! He played a good mix of new and old songs, making sure to play the fan favourites “Fireflies” and “Hello Seattle”, while giving everyone a little taste of the new album if they haven’t picked it up already. At the end of the night, he played a new song titled, “The Yacht Club” which features LIGHTS. Fans familiar with the song, stood there in anticipation waiting to see if LIGHTS would make an appearance to sing the song, in which, she did. It was a special treat for the Toronto show, and by far the song that help made the night end with a ‘BANG!’
One thing I appreciated most about Owl City’s performance was the fact that not only does he switch around what instrument he plays throughout the set, but his fellow band members do so too. His live band set up is pretty big as he has a drummer, keyboardist, guitarist, violinist and cellist, with Young on vocals and switching between guitars, bass, piano and synthesizer throughout the set.
Love him or hate him, you can’t deny that Owl City’s music is unique, catchy and can captivate a crowd of any size. Although I must say, I’m kind of glad he ditched the chicken sweater with the beak and feathers from the last time he was here, and just stuck to using trees as stage props 😉
The school year is ending for the high school students, and there’s no better way to kick off the summer with a ‘BANG!’ than by seeing a great show with your friends. On Tuesday night, Owl City (aka Adam Young) hit up the Kool Haus and put on an excellent show. It was pretty much the perfect way to kick off the summer for any teenager and synthpop fan. If you haven’t heard of Owl City, just think of him as the male version on LIGHTS but with more variety and uniqueness in his sound.
