It’s a sad day today for the Toronto music scene. One of the most popular, respected and highly decorated music blogs in Canada is closing its doors.
Chromewaves founder, writer and photographer Frank Yang’s farewell article shows how hard the choice was.
This is not a decision that I’ve taken lightly. I’ve basically spent the past year waiting/hoping for the spark of musical discovery and impulse/compulsion to share to reignite, but it simply hasn’t.
As a publisher myself, I understand how difficult things can be and the burnt out rate is high.
Honestly, Live in Limbo would not be where it is today, or is likely to not have existed without Chromewaves. I clearly remember reading Frank’s articles back in high school and his review of Radiohead at the Molson Canadian Amphitheatre in 2008 and photos of Arcade Fire at Massey Hall back in 2007.
I will miss Frank’s constant contribution to the music industry. And I hope he finds the passion to restart Chromewaves or something entirely new and inspiring in the near future.
Lastly, I just wanted to thank Frank for inspiring many of the concert photographers and reviewers that I call friends today. Back in 2011, Frank was generous enough to let me interrogate him with an in-depth interview covering his favourite bands, how he started and technical photographer topics.
