Matt Webb at Adelaide Hall – March 7, 2014

Matt Webb rolled through Toronto on Friday night to play an intimate show at Adelaide Hall in the support of his new EP Right Direction. He was also a guest on the Capsule Podcast, where he discusses this solo path in his career. Webb’s path to fame started when he joined Marianas Trench, but has proven that his creativity goes much further than just catchy guitar riffs.

I was really impressed to see Webb’s performance and it was really refreshing to see him play his solo work in a small venue. Something I thought was really neat was the fact that he held an ‘Air Piano’ contest before the tour had started and picked a winner in each city to join him on stage for his performance of ‘Don’t You Turn Your Back On Me’. That’s one thing that has always seemed to amaze me about Webb – his unique way of connecting with his fans. Throughout the night there were no shortages of fan sing a longs as the audience danced the night away to Webb’s energetic set.

As the night started to come to a close, Webb performed the last song off of Right Direction called Heartbreakers, which made the crowd go nuts as Kevvy from Fake Shark – Real Zombie! joined him on stage.  Overall, Matt Webb put on a solid performance and it was great to see another side to his creativity.
