Where to start, you’re at Massey Hall, an internationally world famous hall for Concerts, Canada’s Walk of Fame and Canadian Country music stars Doc Walker and Dean Brody. This was Dean Brody’s debut at Massey Hall, and despite living in Toronto most of my life, my first time at Massey Hall as well! I was excited.
Doc Walker took to the stage and warmed up the audience with an acoustic set of some of their hits including “Beautiful Life,” and “Rocket Girl.” Doc Walker has 7 albums under their belt and an 8th one coming out in October simply called “The 8th. I was surprised; as I’m sure I wasn’t the only one, to spy.
Sean Kelly, from the legendary rock group Helix as Doc Walker’s guitarist! Front man Chris Thorsteinson, of Doc Walker, grew up listening to country and rock music and became friends with Sean who was asked by Chris to play guitar.
To see a concert at Massey Hall is a real treat as the lighting was phenomenal and a photographers dream! The acoustics were incredible for the intimate theatre that holds up to almost 2800 people. Chris and Dean share the same birthday on Aug 10, they are both 39 years young and are both respected and loved by Canadian country music fans.
Next, the main attraction, the incredibly talented singer/song writer Dean Brody, who is easy on the eyes! He certainly has many female fans who were all vying for a chance to just get noticed by him.
His first song, which was no surprise to anyone, was “Crop Circles” from his latest album of the same name, which won him a Juno award for album of the year in 2014. He also sang “Bounty” which reached number 1 on the Canadian Country singles chart! It’s no wonder why Dean was chosen to perform at the Canada’s Walk Of Fame Festival considering his great success! He has had two number 1 singles and 14 top 10’s. He has won seven CCMA awards including Male Artist of the Year in 2013.
He sang his new hit “Mountain Man” which the video was shot in Toronto! He became serious when he sang his first number 1 song “Brothers” and said that he was proud of our Canadian Military.
He loves his fans and certainly shows it, interacting with them, shaking hands and even pulling up onstage, probably one of his youngest fans, holding her in his arms and singing “Canadian Girls.”
To an almost sold out show, another outstanding performances by Canadian country music artists and let’s not forget this year’s inductees into the Canada’s Walk of Fame Louis Arbour CC GOC Montreal, QC, The Band from Toronto, ON, Jeff Healey Toronto, ON, Rachel McAdams Toronto, ON, Ryan Reynolds Vancouver, BC , and Hayley Wickenheiser from Shaunavon, SK.
