Even an unfinished stadium couldn’t stop 20,000 Keith Urban fans. If Hamilton had any doubt about their football team shelling out one Million dollars to bring Keith Urban to the Inaugural concert, he laid them all to rest last.
As the stadium lights dimmed for Keith, the sound decibels roared from cheering fans and of course Keith making his entrance , I am not talking sounds like “The Who” record breaking sounds in 1976 at The Valley, London was measured at 126 dB from 32 meters from the speaker. These sounds were clear sweet sounds from anywhere in this brand new stadium.
Not everyone is a fan just yet. Some Stadium neighbours say there less keen on the Urban concert because of the stop-and-go construction being done on the still unfinished stadium.
“With the concert going on it’s going to slow down the completion of the stadium, so some just shake their heads and think why even bother having a concert when the Stadium’s not even built yet, it just doesn’t make sense.”
I had the chance to ask Mike Fuller an on air personal from KX94.7. This quick question, how does it feel to be the first ever on air radio personality to do any intro at the new Tim Horton field? Mike said “It was very surreal to be up on that stage and a complete rush! After the success of last night, we hope that there will be more concerts in the future at THF.
Keith Urban really loves the fans; he takes the time to interacting with them, reading almost every sign he can. Saturday night was no different. There was a pink sign that caught Keith’s’ eye and it read that it was this girls birthday and she drove six hours with her mom from Ottawa to be there. Keith brought them up on stage and sang a song of her choice while mom watched and took photos capturing the moment. After the song was over Keith said jokingly now only 27 more birthdays.
Keith Urban usually does a duet with Miranda Lambert “We Were Us” so on this current tour Urban always picks a female from a contest to sing the part of Miranda. The lucky winner was 19-year-old Hamilton native Roslyn Witter, Witter beat out hundreds of contestants with her rendition of Urban and Miranda Lamberts’ “We were Us”.
The one thing that Country music fans can expect from Keith is that he is on the move, Keith with the help of security always travels to the back of the stadium where he has a smaller stage set up with a mic and sings a few song. At that time, when is done with his guitar, he signs it and gives it to a lucky fan to take home. Last night was no different.
This was Hamilton biggest party in a long time and I can’t wait to see who next.
