Current Swell at The Horseshoe

Recovering from Nuit Blanche the night before, Torontonians gathered inside the Horseshoe to see Victoria, BC band Current Swell to play.

Having seen Current Swell play numerous times lately, they just can’t stay away from our city, I would say that their live show is always better than what’s been recorded on the albums.  They shared stories from being on tour and how they performed one of their songs at band member Dave’s wedding this past summer.

Something that Current Swell is always good at writing songs for people to sing along with.  Even if you don’t know the songs, CS makes it easy to learn them.  Asking for help from the crowd to contribute backup vocals, giving Toronto a 10 out 10.  At times the audience knew all the words to songs, sometimes overpowering the band themselves.

As the night went on, the crowd grew rowdier and demanded an encore.  As the drummer walked back on stage with two beer bottles, smashing one with the other, asking the audience to get loud.  They ended with crowd favourite Young and Able as well as the latest single, “Rollin’” from the album “Ulysses”.

Overall, if you’re looking for a good night out from a great Canadian band, a Current Swell show is a must then!

You can buy the latest album, “Ulysses” which is out now and see them perform at the Casby Awards on October 23rd
