Seeing Red: Closer Look at the American Music Awards Red Carpet

When the voices on the radio step out onto the red carpet, we are often pleasantly surprised or completely horrified. You may agree or disagree with my fashion picks, but I’m sure we can all agree that our favourite celebrities are never predictable when it comes to fashion.

Best Dressed:

One of the beauties of Music Awards’ Red Carpets is that attendees take fashion risks. I’d like to think that more often than not, the risks have a positive outcome.

At 45 years old, Jenny from the Block has a rock solid body that women half her age would kill for. With a sleek, pulled back hairdo, our eyes can’t help but go straight to those abs in her cut-out Reem Acra dress.

Being covered up doesn’t have to make you a prude! Giuliana Ranic looks incredible in an Alex Perry dress with strappy Christian Louboutin heels. I wasn’t sure how I felt about the one sleeved, one shoulder look, but Giuliana has converted me.

Fergie, in Halston Heritage, is also showing leg with a high slit. Rocking the gold hardware, from her belt to her strappy heels, gives her look the edge she nails so perfectly every time.

In one of my favourite designers, Charli XCX rocks an all black Vivienne Westood Red Label gown. There’s something about a fair skinned beauty in jet black with a red lip. The dramatic look really suits the British star, she definitely nailed the off classy meets modern look.

Kylie Jenner’s  Alexandre Vauthier dress didn’t leave much to the imagination. Jenner shows off her legs in this silky showstopper with a very high slit. We can’t talk fashion and ignore the “Kylie” lip that has taken social media by storm.

Young model, Gigi Hadid, rocked a Prabal Gurung pant suit with her cheeky black lace bra showing underneath. Her hair and makeup kept her look fresh and flirty, while she mastered the perfect balance between feminine and androgynous.

Ne-Yo is looking fly on the red carpet, in an all blue look from head to toe. With a gold pocket square and tie clip, Ne-Yo manages to give his look a rich pop of colour. Hats off to you, Ne-Yo!

Worst Dressed:

I can’t exactly say that some of my culprits for being the worst dressed rocked awful frocks… but rather, their lack of clothing is what turned me off. Some of my worst dressed choices were underwhelming and just didn’t wow me.

Oh, Skylar. You look like you showed your stylist (…if you used one) a photo from Justin Bieber’s Instagram and said I want to look like this. Sorry, but I’m just not a fan of this look. I love me some Skylar Grey though. No hard feelings, right?

Apparently fishnets and not a whole lot more was on Bleona Qeret’s mind at the AMAs. Not the most subtle choice. What was that saying my parents taught me? If you have nothing nice to say, don’t say it at all.

I’m seeing pink, a lot of pink. Frankie Grande, brother of Arianna Grande, made quite the red carpet appearance. His “t-shirt” was painted on. While I am a fan of good art work, there’s a time and a place. This certainly is the right award show to sport this look, but it just didn’t do anything for me. I do like his high top kicks with gold hardware, though! Fergie would likely approve.

Rocsi Diaz, why? You did nail the nude heels and nails, with dainty jewellery. As for that dress, while she was on trend with the cut out look, I just find it to be a material that is far too heavy for a red carpet.

While Jaden Smith is looking more like his father, Will Smith, I don’t feel as though that helps this look too much. Smith looks like he just crawled out of his basement, after being locked up for days playing video games.
