New Music Releases

May 19, 2015 – Hot Chip, Mariah Carey, Brandon Flowers

Another late post, entirely my fault once again. Take a look at what’s good this week.

Hot Chip – Why Make Sense?

The electro group has released yet another superb album. The sixth studio release from this group is impressive– like all the others. Definitely worth all the hype it got, the advanced electro beats and rhythms of this album push it forward into the type of electro people want to hear in 2015. Round, bubbly, sometimes sluggish but mostly wacky and almost kinetic and dancey. Cementing Hot Chip’s bubbly electro style, the lyrics of this album can be a bit dense, but it’s still a bright, energetic electro record– creative to a T and beautifully produced.

Mariah Carey – #1 To Infinity

This is an album of Mariah Carey’s greatest hits. It is flawless.

Brandon Flowers – The Desired Effect

Like many artists coming from established bands (mostly lead singers), Brandon Flowers has decided to release yet another solo album that sounds exactly like his old band, The Killers. I do like when artists go solo and when bands split it– it makes it easier to see where the talent lay. Though I don’t necessarily love The Killers or Brandon Flowers, I recognize this record as a good solo album, a good, big, joyful, loud pop effort. Nothing too special or to be acclaimed so highly– Brandon Flowers may need a glass of milk if we raise his ego any further– but nothing so tragically disappointing that I hate it, burn my iPod, destroy all my Killers CDs and move to a cabin in the woods over. You know?
