Wednesday September 2nd, must have been one of the hottest days of summer, and the night was even hotter! Couldn’t wait to see the man of the hour Brett Kissel! Opening act is a star in the making, the very talented and young Yoan. To be honest I did not know who Yoan was, but instantly fell in love with his very deep voice that was made for country. Yoan is from Quebec, On and just happened to be the winner of the season 2 reality show La Voix in 2014. He just released his self-titled debut album in 2015.
For only being 20 years old, he’s got a confidence and maturity about him. It’s nice to see a young artist who still plays old country such as Waylon Jennings, CCR, and Johnny Cash. He sang his song “Goodbye Mother” a song he had written about going off to war.
Great vocals, real country, will definitely be following him and checking him out when he’s next in town.
Next, Brett Kissel took to the stage, all the way from Alberta. He’s got a brand new album “Pick Me Up” which can be picked up Sept 11 2015. He sang all of his hits including a song that features Hunter Hayes “I Can Play Guitar.” Unfortunately Hunter was not there but there was definitely a surprise guest worth mentioning which performed with Brett whom I will mention a little later on.
Brett is always great in concert, he’s got great catchy songs and is hot right now! He just played in the Grand Ole Opry this summer and sold out! Brett can be proud as only a handful of Canadian artists have played there! What an honour! He sang “Check Yes or No” a George Strait classic. Yoan came back onstage to sing a duet with Brett “Good Hearted Woman,” by Waylon Jennings.
Bret was happy to see someone holding out a large poster of Charlie, Brett`s dog holding a beer, with the caption underneath “Raise Your Glass.” He was happy to see this.
Brett announced another special guest on stage but no one could ever imagine that he would be such a legend, an icon, and as good as it gets, Randy Bachman! I was floored along with everyone else! They both broke out into “Taking Care of Business.” What an epic moment and one concert I will not forget. And the concert didn`t stop there, he then sang “3 2 1,” his top 6th single “Must Be Something In The Airwaves,” then sang a few covers of “Honey I’m Good,” and “Shut Up and Dance” and of course, “Raise Your Glass.”
