Album Premiere: “Apollo” by The Tourist Company

The Tourist Company has outright rejected the idea of being confined to the limits of one genre or sound. Chalk it up to living in Vancouver that this eclectic group feels far from settled. Their debut full-length album, Apollo, tackles themes of idealism, skepticism, venturing into the unknown, and longing for home. Full of achingly beautiful string arrangements, bright keys juxtaposed against bass synths, and cinematic crescendos, the group doesn’t shy away from the dramatic on their new offering. As experimental as these approaches may be, elements of pop can be found scattered throughout, in songs such as the title track.

“This record is an unashamed concept album and a window into what life has been like these past few years. It’s a weird, spacey window, but a window nonetheless.

For me space exploration is metaphor for the unknown. So much about being a musician nowadays feels like hanging suspended in the atmosphere without any certainty of ever reaching the ground again. It’s an experience filled with exhilaration, accomplishment, separation from those you care about and real disappointments; that’s what this album embodies.

We set out to make something that would define our sound and with the help of some amazingly talented friends we feel like Apollo has done that.”
