Everyday we will be posting a year end survey submitted by team members, they appear unedited with contributors told to interpret questions how ever they see fit. -Dakota, Music Editor
How long have you been with Live in Limbo and what do you do for the site?
I’ve been with Live in Limbo for 5 years as a concert reviewer.
What were your three favourite albums of 2016?
RIHANNA – Anti (I hated it at first, but after awhile I couldn’t stop listening to it)
REBECCA FERGUSON – Superwoman
THE JAPANESE HOUSE – Swim Against the Tide
Honorable mention:
THE 1975 – I like it when you sleep, for you are so beautiful yet so unaware of it
(You know I couldn’t do this section without mentioning them lol)
What was the most underrated album of 2016?
The Heart Speaks in Whispers by Corinne Bailey Rae
What was your favourite Canadian album of 2016?
Views by Drake
What were your three favourite songs of 2016?
Somebody Else – The 1975
Kiss It Better – Rihanna
Weston Road Flows – Drake
How many concerts and/or festivals did you go to in 2016?
I think 25
What were your three favourite concerts of the year?
Florence and the Machine – June 10th at Molson Amp
Oh Wonder – January 23rd at Danforth Music Hall
The 1975 – November 3rd at Air Canada Centre
What was your favourite festival you attended of the year?
Did not attend
What festival had the best lineup (regardless if you attended or not)?
I would say the Governors Ball
What/who was the biggest musical disappointment (live or album) for you?
Rihanna at Air Canada Centre (2nd show). I decided to go last minute because I really loved the album, and hoped Drake would show up. Despite how much I love RiRi, she’s not at greatest live performer. Her voice would crack a little too often, so she depends on the crowd to do most of the singing. However, where Rihanna lacks in live singing, she makes up in killer dance moves.
P.S. Drizzy did show up!
In your opinion, what was the biggest music story?
I’m still shock over the death of Prince and George Michael. I grew up listening to them so I feel like a piece of my childhood is gone.
What band did you see live for the first time that really impressed you?
Oh Wonder! This duo is an absolute treasure.
What was your favourite new musical discovery of 2016?
WET, LANY, and KING
Who were you disappointed to miss seeing live this year?
The Japanese House headline show at Horseshoe Tavern.
Who should we be looking out for in 2017?
Dua Lipa – Britain’s newest pop entity
London Grammar – Their new single “Rooting for You” is available on iTunes
John Mayer – After four years, he’s back. Starting January 20th, Mayer plans to release songs from his new album, The Search From Everything, per month.
Who’s going to be headlining (or at least playing) all the 2017 festivals?
Tove Lo
What was your favourite review set you did for LiL this year?
The 1975 at Air Canada Centre
Is there anything else you want to say about 2016 or predict about 2017?
I felt this year was lacking on the concert front – Hoping that would change in the New Year. Here’s to discovering new artists and many concert adventures.
