From The Artist : “Broke & Drunk was written at a point in my life when I was unemployed for the first time yet also trying to stay present in the music scene. Venues were closing, when I did go out and play nobody was there . The reality of being an artist in Vancouver, let alone a citizen, was wearing me down and so this song is a snapshot of that moment in time. Despite the circumstances all I could do was look to the future with optimism.”
