“Beerbongs & Bentleys” by Post Malone

Final Rating: 8/10

Post Malone released his second album, Beerbongs & Bentleys on April 27th, the album includes 18 tracks and features artists like G-Eazy, Ty Dolla Sign, Nicki Manaj, 21 Savage, and more. Post started recording this album soon after his release of his first album, Stoney in 2016. So it’s been a long time coming for this one. Fans have also been anticipating the album as Post would drop little hints about it and right before the release of the album a couple songs had also gotten leaked.

The first song on the album is called Paranoid, which is one of my favourite songs on the album. It starts with giving us an insight into Post’s feelings, which as we know from Stoney, he isn’t afraid to share. He sings of anxiety how being famous isn’t all fun and games. Other songs that have sort of the same sounds would be Rich & Sad, which starts off with what kind of sounds like a flute at first and then turns into a soft, catchy beat with Post singing about how he wishes “the money made you stay”. That is a pretty self-explanatory statement there. Another would be the twelfth track Stay, which if you are familiar with his first album, Stoney, is a mirror of his song Feeling Whitney. It is just Post singing with an acoustic guitar, which really shows his song writing and musical abilities.

Now Beerbongs & Bentleys obviously isn’t just the sad music. It wouldn’t be Post Malone without his party side. For example the fifth track, Takin Shots has a party vibe to it with the low bass pulsing behind Post rapping. Another song is the tenth track Ball For Me ft. Nicki Minaj. It has a funky beat throughout the song just making it an all around feel good song. Then there’s Same Bitches ft. G-Eazy, which I am in love with just because it’s Post Malone and G-Eazy together. Along with that it is a very catchy song you can’t help but move along to.

Post Malone also included some singles that came out a while before the album. One of them is the popular hit Rockstar featuring 21 Savage, which came out on September of last year. It blew up right away skyrocketing Post Malone in the rap game. The second single on the album is Candy Paint, which also came out last fall. This is one of my favourite songs by Post because it’s such a catchy song. It’s the type of song to blast in the car with the windows down when you’re just cruising along. The last single is the hit Psycho featuring Ty Dolla Sign, which came out in February. Soon after its release Psycho shot up to number 2 on the US Billboard Hot 100.

Beerbongs & Bentleys really expands on what Stoney started with showing all the different sides of Post Malone. He goes through the perks of being famous and all the fun he has at parties and with girls, but then turns around and addresses the mistakes he makes, the the consequences as well as broken hearts. This style of his reaches out to fans on another level, not many rappers really take the time to put out that kind of music.

Overall this album has been quite a hit from what I’ve seen. I got the privilege of going to his concert in Vancouver the day his album also came out and many of the fans in the audience had already memorized the words and were singing along with Post.
