The Marías with Luna Li at The Danforth Music Hall

The Marías, name after lead singer, Maria Zardoya, have been touring pretty steadily since the end of Jan. 2022 promoting their fresh, thrilling and romanticize pop album debut, “Cinema”. The Cinema tour made their stop in Toronto on July 21st , 2022 at the Danforth Music Hall to a sold out crowd, with Maria Zardoya and her five bandmates. The Maria’s sound lends itself mainly to Maria’s hypnotizing, sultry and seductive vocals, whom she sings in both English and on Spanish driven songs, but also the music relies heavily on jazz elements, and their slow pop dance arrangements, particularly on “Hush” and “Un Millon”. The percussion section was welcoming addition to some tracks which compliments well with Maria’s vocals. They also debut their recent track with Bad Bunny, “Otro Atardecer” live, which strips the heavy distorted tones of the original to its basic elements that reflect the band’s sound. It was a nice addition to their setlist and a fan favourite at the show. Cinema is out now and The Marías are continuing to tour until the end of October, closing their Cinema tour at Austin City Limits Music Festival and Ill Points Festival.
