Porno For Pyros set History on fire last night with a smouldering show. The crowd was abuzz with anticipation upon the first glimpses of the band off stage. It was 28 years ago since their last visit to Toronto so the fans were excited to relive some of their youth.Tigercub from Bristol, England got the crowd moving. Delivering a solid set of rock’n’roll for the boys and girls.
Porno For Pyros was in good spirits literally and figuratively with Perry Farrell taking a swig out of a wine bottle as he took centre stage. Guitarist Peter DiStefano, bassist Mike Watt and Farrell casually bantered throughout the evening. “Kiss my ring finger” Perry said, expressing his love for the movie the Godfather after having watched it on the bus with the band. Farrell was also curious about legal weed and if you could just sit on your couch at home and have it delivered to your door.
It was a fantastic set that included large chunks of both of the band’s albums. This is the Horns, Thorns en Halos farewell tour so why not give the fans what they want? Throw in an Iggy & The Stooges cover for good measure and you’ve got yourself a sonic serenade. Mike Watt’s rumbling bass lines and Stephen Perkins’ crashing drum beats were synonymous with thunder and lightning. Pete’s guitar like splashing rain and Perry the lightning rod himself. Etty swaying in the breeze with Robin Hatch mimicking a wind chime.
We had to say goodbye tonight but the music lives on. Everyone goes home happy.
