Behind the Video: “Bandit” – Annika Catharina

Canadian country artist Annika Catharina is celebrating the recent music video release for her current single “Bandit”.

Written by Amanda Couture and the song’s producers The Renaissance (Dan Botch and Garrett Ward), “Bandit” is the second single to drop this year from the Abbotsford, British Columbia-based artist. Beyond its romantic and picturesque storytelling, the country heart of “Bandit” is on display in a production that emphasizes Annika’s heartfelt vocals and layered harmonies alongside a rousing steel guitar.

“Bandit” follows the rising artist’s smash single, “What if I”, which we also had the opportunity to go Behind The Song. Today we’re excited to be collaborating again to give our readers an exclusive behind the scenes look at the music video for “Bandit”! Check it out below.

Hey everyone! I’m Annika Catharina, a country singer-songwriter from Abbotsford, BC! I can’t wait to take you “behind the video” and share all the exciting details about my music video “Bandit”!

Let’s dive in!

THE INSPIRATION

“Bandit” was written by the talented Amanda Couture and The Renaissance (Dan Botch and Garrett Ward),. Amanda recorded the demo and II was completely hooked as soon as I heard it.

I quickly realized I wanted to create a music video for it. My goal was to capture and recreate the strong feelings I experienced while recording the song, focusing on its themes of want and desire. I wanted the visuals to truly reflect those deep emotions, creating a strong connection between the music and the images on screen.

Ultimately, I aimed to bring the essence of “Bandit” to life in a way that resonates with everyone who watches it.

THE CREATION

For the music video,  we really wanted to keep things simple. My goal was to allow the audience to feel my connection to the song. I felt that using some different landscapes with me singing in them would be an imaginative way to present this.

Max Chadwick, my videographer, did an amazing job capturing so many unforgettable moments on camera. Before we started filming, we had a few discussions about our vision and some specifics I had in mind as far as colours and texture, cinematography, locations, and when to film. These were inspired by other videos I had seen before.

The song stands alone, but the video enhances its power and I feel like we accomplished what we set out to do. It was a great experience!

THE AUDIENCE

The video is really a way for people to connect with the adventurous spirit of “Bandit” when it comes to romance.

There are so many uncertainties and challenges that can happen when we want someone. So this is about understanding that and ultimately enjoying that unpredictability.

“Bandit” is cheeky and makes the case that we are all bandits in a way.

This was my first music video, so I hope viewers connect with my own love of the song and its celebration of the excitement that comes with romance. Enjoy the ride, appreciate the connection, and have fun chasing what you want!
