Video Premiere : “What I Gotta Know” by The Holy Gasp

From The Artist : “There are countless depictions throughout pop culture of marriages beginning — of a bride and groom walking blissfully down the aisle and living happily ever after. There are far fewer examples of marriages just… getting through it, making it work. ‘What I Gotta Know’ examines the many uncertain doors through which two lovers might walk on their quest toward togetherness, and tries to understand how polyamory can sometimes be used as a lubricant for divorce. The video draws much of its inspiration from classic children’s television–mainly the opening sequences of Captain Kangaroo and The Polka Dot Door. It was choreographed and directed by Becca Pearl, and filmed in a single shot with no edits.”

Written by the powerfully enigmatic Benjamin Hackman The Love Songs of Oedipus Rex is a concept record written for 27 musicians and vocalists. It tells thebombastic, masochistic story of a troubled marriage further burdened by the death of the husband’s father, and further burdened still by the death of his therapist. It is best filed amongst the music of James Bond, Beat era jazz, and the freaky shenanigans of folks like Tom Waits and Frank Zappa. On October 27th The Holy Gasp will be bringing their new album, The Love Songs of Oedipus Rex to life in Toronto at 918 Bathurst with a a 27 person orchestra accompanied with original choreography.
