Slipknot with BEHEMOTH, Gojira and Volbeat at Darien Lake in Buffalo, NY

Over the last 20 years Slipknot has arguably become one of the most influential metal bands around, and after seeing their performance at Darien Lake it was evident as to why they still continue to dominate the scene.

The band has grown a lot throughout their career, taking their nu metal roots and managing to constantly reinvent themselves with each album. The setlist for the Knotfest Roadshow perfectly showcased this as they performed an array of old songs such as “People = Shit”, “Psychosocial”, and “Prosthetics”. Along with the heavy hitters, it was also nice to see them perform some of the newer tracks like “Unsainted” and “All Out Life” which is off of their latest album, We Are Not Your Kind, sprinkled in between. Visually, Slipknot’s live shows are on a whole different level. Between the nine masked men in jumpsuits performing on stage, pyro going off and their three-tiered stage that illuminated with multiple lights and videos across it, there was always something interesting going on. Watching the band perform on stage you can easily see that they have perfected their craft. Each member contributed to the intense performance that kept everyone engaged and never missed a beat as the fans were spilling out of their seats and into the aisles trying to get closer to the stage.

When you combine all these factors, the show as a whole is a unique experience as Slipknot has clearly spent years paying attention to every little detail of their live performances, while their music contains elements to it that any music fan can appreciate. Even if metal isn’t really your thing, I would still highly suggest catching them live if you ever get the chance.
