The Canadian rapper has unveiled the music video for “Rain,” a track produced by BIG KILL from his album, Start Anew, which dropped on October 31, 2025.

Directed by Sam Tudor, the video was filmed in Dawson City, Yukon during Shad’s appearance at the Dawson City Music Festival and features Shad within nature and at the Palace Grand Theatre, a National Historic Site.

“Rain” is about the “importance of sharing our creativity rather than keeping it trapped inside.”

About the track, Shad tells us: “The image I had in mind for this one was of an ocean within me that threatened to drown me unless I let the water out […] The chorus emphasizes the purpose of the rain, the purpose of our creativity: Don’t need to reign like a royal / we just need rain on the soil.”

About the music video, Shad notes: “Sam Tudor had the wise idea to take advantage of the unique landscape and buildings to make something together. On one hand the setting is very incongruous with hip-hop in a cool way but on the other hand the naturalistic imagery fits the message of the song perfectly.”

Director Sam Tudor shares a behind-the-scenes look at the shoot: “This video was very off the cuff. Both Shad and I were performing at the Dawson City Music Festival this past summer, and we decided to make a video while we were there in the Yukon. We had been out late the night before, watching bands perform under midnight sun. Up early, we had about two hours to film before having to rush to the airport to catch flights home. We ran around town trying to capture the feel of the place, and our new friend, Megan, drove us up and down the streets in her truck. It was all very improvised and chaotic, but somehow just right. Rain is a song about eschewing capitalist hierarchies in favour of being connected to our community and land. Being in Dawson during a celebration of art, on the territory of the Trʼondëk Hwëchʼin First Nation, brought these values into sharp focus and it felt like a fitting place to shoot video for this song.”
