Gord Bamford at UofGuelph – 03/23/12

Review & Photo’s by Ray Williams

I was back on the road, this time north to Guelph. Where everyone is asking” Is It Friday Yet?”

Most people come to Guelph for the Selman’s Brewery, Football, University, even the small country pubs like the Stampede Ranch, but tonight was for CCMA’s Male artist of the year Gord Bamford, and CCMA group of the year Hey Romeo. The Brass Tap Campus pub holds around 450, confirmed attendance 303 people last night, feeling like 500. Gord came out playing a guitar that belonged to Hey Romeo’s guitarist which was made to believe was left at the tours last stop the night before. The first song Gord opened with was “Day Job” then “Postcard from Pasadena” and followed up with “Is it Friday yet.” Casey Clark from CMT made a short appearance when Gord Bamford called him onstage to sing happy birthday.

Gord played a complete set of sixteen songs, then three encore songs that took him to just before midnight. After that, there was a meet and greet for Kix 106.7 winners.

I will start by saying this was my first time photographing at a small venue, and it rocked! As a fan you get up close to the artist, some even made it on stage to dance and pose with Gord Bamford!

As a photographer, you always want great lighting when shooting a concert. Would I trade it for a small venue and interaction with the artist, in a heartbeat!
