WATERLOO – Not even the rain could cool off Inbee Park yesterday at Manulife Financial LPGA Classic. The South Korean fired a 61, -10 for the final round at Grey Silo Golf Course Waterloo, Ontario.
Park came in the round two strokes behind Shanshan Feng, Feng lost the lead by the eighth hole where Park already had five birdies, and she followed it up with another five on the back nine. Feng fell to third when US Christie Kerr fired a 63. If it wasn’t for Parks putter this weekend, it could have gone another way for Kerr. Without any surprise Park was in 7th on the year’s money list and rank first for putting.
A hi-lite of the final round for golf fans was Megan McChrystal of the United States on the ninth hole Par3 173 yards where she aces it. Defending champion Hee Young Park finished tied for 10th with a 271.
Money leaders of the week, Inbee Park picking up her first win of the year, which comes with a pay cheque for $225,000. Christie Kerr earning $136,903 and rounding out the top three was Shanshan Feng $99,314. Fan favorite Michelle Wie tied for sixth with Stacy Lee.
At the age of 16 Brooke Henderson from Smith Falls, Ontario was one of five Canadians that made this week’s cut of +1, but was the only amateur in the field of 79. Brooke shot her best round Sunday of 68 -3 with that being said, was still hard on herself saying “ I had a few three putts this week early on, and Sunday had a few birdies that didn’t drop” Brooke will be playing in the Women’s Porter Cup amateur tourney, then for the second time in a row LPGA U.S. Open at Pinehurst in two weeks. Brook and Alena Sharp from Hamilton was only two strokes behind our top Canadian Sue Kim of Langley B.C.
