Federer defeats Ferrer at Rogers Cup

The crowd at the Rexall Centre was over the top excited to see Roger Federer take centre court last night. They even sang him “happy birthday” in loud unison and he returned the favour with the big thumbs up.

“Roger, this is literally your cup” remarked one fan from the nose bleed seats.

Federer is like a fine wine, whose game continues to improve with time. Now that he is 33 years old, he proved that when he defeated David Ferrer 6-3, 4-6, 6-3. Sure, the legend may not be quick on his feet or agile as he once was. And even seemed to question himself a few years ago. But Federer has found his passion for tennis anew and his focus on technique is an art form of itself.

Federer is currently ranked #3 in the world and hasn’t been at the very top in about two years. Winning the Rogers Cup and US Open would put him back on track for that coveted position.

For me, I think this year, next year and maybe one more will be the last few times we all get to enjoy seeing him play. So let’s enjoy it.
