Raonic gets eliminated by Lopez at Rogers Cup

Last night was an upset when ATP 6th ranked and Canadian star Milos Raonic was defeated by Felliciano Lopez of Spain.

A shocked crowd at the Rexall Centre witnessed Lopez winning 6-4, 6-7 (5), 6-3 for his quarter-final victory in Toronto.

Raonic need look a bit off despite the crowds attempt to cheer him on with thunderous foot stomping and praise. He was still able to deliver some of his signature aces in the middle of the match.

They went back and forth many times and seemed to be stuck in the second game, but Lopez managed to pull through and win the match.

In an interview with the press afterwards, Raonic stated: “I just need to show in a few situations more courage and go for it a little bit more,” Raonic said. “Not just that third set but all throughout the match.”

Lopez probably had the advantage as Raonic just won the City Open a few days before and has his eyes on the US Open. Lopez also remarked that “My game plan basically is to be aggressive”.

While it would have been great for fans to see the Wimbledon semi-finalist win the Rogers Cup, they will have to wait until next year.
