On November 5th, Vancouver based band, Dear Rouge played a sold out show at the MOD Club in Toronto.
The crowd was warmed up from openers Rah Rah who brought the dance party with them and blow up letters that spelled out the band’s name.
Just past 10:30p.m. Dear Rouge took the stage, bringing high energy right from the start. Having played Toronto many times in the past, their first time “to five people at the Supermarket in Kensington while one guy yelled the whole time” as lead singer Danielle McTaggart stated between songs.
Since that first Toronto show, they’ve been busy. Having signed with Universal, played cross Canada a few times, released their first full-length album Black to Gold and even took home the SOCAN Songwriting Prize for their single “Have I Heard”. Safe to say Dear Rouge has come a long way from playing to five people.
Danielle kept thanking the crowd throughout the night, saying how special playing Toronto is to them. The sold out audience sang along to each song they performed, as Danielle bent down to interact with those in front.
As they wrapped up their set, Dear Rouge invited a couple on stage which was lead to a proposal. Everyone cheered and they dedicated their ballad October Second to the happy couple. It was one of those shows where the audience and the band didn’t want the night to end. It’s safe to say that they’ll be back and for an even bigger venue.
