Based in Guelph, Ontario Lowlands‘ draw inspiration from dreamscapes, folklore and the stark, harshness of the Canadian landscape. The Instrumentation of the group is perfectly supported the co-songwriting of Gordon Auld and Abe Del Bel Belluz. With the support of local musicians and songwriters Matt Monoogian and Joseph Gallo Jr. The band brings their dark and unique blend of country, delta blues and bluegrass into venues across Canada, singing songs with a raw, disarming vulnerability. With their first full-length release of “Huron” the group plan to release a record dedicated to each great lake. Lowlands are set to release their new album Erie, out on October 28th on Chelsea Records and it features production by The Wooden Sky lead-vocalist Gavin Gardiner.
“The video for Run was shot and directed and edited by Colin Harrington over the period of about a year. We sat down and talked about doing a video for Run — I told him that the song wasn’t about a specific moment in time. Even though I had written it very quickly it was more of a suggested narrative that was simply a way to express myself, meant to spark a feeling. We decided to do the same with the video — not to be too specific to a narrative and just capture some really beautiful black and white shots of scenery and start there. After looking at it there were some pretty stark shots of clear cut logging which I thought worked into the themes as well.
I always like the listener to create their own connections and meanings in a song so Colin and I decided the video should be no different. We wanted to just show a visual aid to the dreamscapes, this kind of foggy reality that is being recalled in the song like a fading memory. I think it’s more powerful that way; leave a little mystery.”
