From The Artist : Olive takes a look at the downside of dreaming too hard. It’s a classic story: countless films and books have depicted successful yet disillusioned characters that fall into darkness in response to the anticlimactic reality of achieving their dreams. A result perhaps of too much focus placed on an idealized end goal and comparisons with others’ successes. This song doesn’t venture into quite as melodramatic territory, but it does paint a picture of quiet, deflated acceptance.
Cherry Blaster started as Iulia Ciobanu’s solo electronic/synth project, but like any music baby/child it is perpetually growing into new forms. Juggling the desire to break hearts, blow minds, achieve the optimal shred, and make you dance/feel badass, her music is always only temporarily definable. Cherry Blaster released Sleep Depraved in 2017, her first album to see the light of day after years of discarded bedroom attempts. This foray into releasing music catalyzed a slew of new creations shortly after, resulting in a backlog the size of which is proving problematic for her ability to readily share it. Olive was written in late 2016 and completed/produced/recorded in summer of 2018, with mixing by Nyles Miszczyk and mastering by Sage Kim from Lacquer Channel. Following Demo Reel which was put out in May, it is the second of two standalone singles that are a departure from Sleep Depraved’s darker sound. Cherry Blaster hopes one day to be able to concoct something deliciously genre-less, and also to shriek like Courtney Love without expiring into cough attacks.
