Fun, upbeat, and lighthearted, Desiree Dorion‘s “Wouldn’t That Be Fun” featuring Dave Wasyliw is Country/Rock blended call and response about imagining what it’s like to be in the early stages of a relationship. After initially meeting at the 2019 Manitoba Country Music Awards, Desiree and Dave got together in the summer of 2021 to write songs for Desiree. Yet as their three hour songwriting session progressed, it was clear to the songwriters that this song in particular needed to be a call and response style duet, requiring a second vocalist. The young love, flirtatious song features a driving rhythm and the complimentary vocals of the songwriters coming together during the chorus. Moving away from her biographical, storytelling focused songs, Desiree’s “Wouldn’t That Be Fun” is a cheerful, lively, and fun-loving tune taken from the imagination of the songwriters about what dating is like today – the things people would do, what they would say to their friends, and the butterflies-in-your-stomach excitement of if the other person in the relationship feels the same way.
Desiree Dorion grew up a mile and a half from the grounds of Dauphin Country Fest, one of the biggest outdoor music festivals in Canada. As a little girl she would ride her bike there when the festival wasn’t on, climb up on the stage, and pretend to play to the thousands of fans that come to watch big country music acts. In 2014 her dream of playing the mainstage came true when she shared the stage with The Band Perry.
The JUNO Nominee has had five songs chart in the top 100 on the Canadian country music charts (TRAX), along with several reaching the top spot on the Indigenous Music Countdown. Her songwriting partner on her most recent single, “Wouldn’t That Be Fun,” is one-half of Doc Walker, Dave Wasyliw.
Desiree’s previous release, “Sometimes I Drink,” was co-written with JUNO Award winner, Crystal Shawanda at her home in Nashville and produced by Chris Burke-Gaffney. It reached #12 on the country iTunes charts in its first week of release, stayed in the top 100 on the Canadian country music charts (TRAX) for 16 weeks and reached the #1 spot on the Indigenous Music Countdown.
Desiree is a proud member of the Opaskwayak Cree Nation. In June, 2021, she hosted the Achimotak series with the Canadian Country Music Association and is an artist ambassador with the Downie Wenjack Foundation.
