The Toronto-based artist teamed up with David Park, Martha and the Muffins, Mike Schlosser, and Alex Exists to deliver her New Company EP. Featuring two original songs and remixes of “New Company,” she was inspired by the realization that the fling she had been putting time, energy and real emotion into for months was never going to become a relationship.
“I wanted to try and totally change the feeling of the track while holding onto the best part – Sam’s vocals. The original is a slower, soulful ballad, so instead I went for an uptempo groove. People seem to love when I put on the composer hat and use more traditional sounds, so I did some of that with strings and piano, but kept it jazzy and modern with swirling chords, tight drums, and a groovy bass line.” —David Park on “New Company” (D. Park Remix)
Artist Statement : It was a pleasure collaborating with David Park, Martha and the Muffins, Mike Schlosser, and Alex Exists, who all reimagined my song “New Company” with their own special touch. Today I’d love for you to check out “New Company (D. Park Remix)” ahead of tomorrow’s release of my New Company EP. In his words, “I wanted to try and totally change the feeling of the track while holding onto the best part – Sam’s vocals. The original is a slower, soulful ballad, so instead I went for an uptempo groove. People seem to love when I put on the composer hat and use more traditional sounds, so I did some of that with strings and piano, but kept it jazzy and modern with swirling chords, tight drums, and a groovy bass line.” Sometimes you want new company, but aren’t ready for it. Sometimes you are. Everyone’s journey is different and is on its own timeline.
