Eugene, Oregon musical duo Dana and Alden announce their new album Speedo, out June 27 via Concord Jazz. Their first offering on their new label, Speedo is a leap into the unknown, chasing novel sounds they’ve never heard before in collaboration with multi-instrumentalist and producer extraordinaire Charif Megarbane. Recorded over a rainy, feverish two-week stretch holed up in Lisbon, Dana, Alden and Charif experimented with rare synthesizers and analog toys to craft an imaginative new full-length that fully realizes the imaginative ideas presented on their first two albums. Still rooted in jazz, Speedo gets intentionally “messy,” folding in elements of funk, indie rock, pop, hip-hop and more, as shown in their recent Elevator Music performance.
As a first taste of Speedo, Dana and Alden are sharing the album’s lead single Don’t Run Away today, along with an accompanying music video that chronicles the band’s travels on tour filmed by Alden and Nick Liden. A synth-driven dancefloor jam which features UK social media personalities MrBruv and Faye, the song is an angsty journey about the frightening feeling of committing to love that crescendos into a euphoric disco outro.
