2025 marks 20 years of an illustrious, diversely prolific career for Shad, and it’s aligned that this double decade celebration has led him to a stage of reflection and renewal. Perhaps a way to Start Anew – the title of his forthcoming seventh album, out on October 31, 2025 via Secret City Records.
In addition to the exciting announcement, Shad has also shared his new single ‘Bars and BBQs‘ along with it’s accompanying lyric video. Produced by Los Angeles’ Sndtrk (Larry June, Rapsody, Pharoahe Monch) it is a lyrical exercise Shad pursued a few summers ago but turned into a fun, yet deeper concept. The first verse is all playful lyricism but the second adds some layers of meaning— from the positive aspects/meanings of bars (lyrics) and bbqs (food and community) to a contrast of those words:
“Sickness in every CELL and there’s more addiction/From what’s stored in kitchens to us stored in prisons/That’s BARS and BBQ’s”. It was produced by Los Angeles’ Sndtrk (Larry June, Rapsody, Pharoahe Monch).
