In just a few short years, AV & The Inner City, the all female collective has quickly become one of Canada’s most compelling new voices, earning national media attention, major festival slots, and accolades including the Edmonton Folk Festival Emerging Artist Award. Their 2025 self-titled debut EP climbed to #7 on the CKUA Radio Top 30 and spent nine weeks on the Earshot charts, with support from CBC, SiriusXM, Edify, and more.
Today they are sharing their new music video for “A Dollar & A Suitcase”.
Inspired by a real family story passed down through mothers and daughters, the track traces AV’s grandmother’s journey immigrating from The Netherlands to Canada in 1951, exploring the emotional weight of leaving home, building a new life, and the small gestures that help families stay connected across time and distance. Blending Soul, Roots, and gospel-leaning harmonies, “A Dollar & A Suitcase” captures the resilience of immigrant families and the enduring bond between mothers and daughters, transforming one family’s story into something universally relatable.
