Spotlight: Matt and Kim

By Andrew Tomayer

Matt and Kim, a band that consists of the members Matt and Kim. They have shown through their first big effort, an album known as Grand, that they are a band to be reckoned with (well, reckoned with flying food and bad sushi). Their music infuses Matt’s keyboard skills and singing with Kim’s back-up vocals and drumming abilities and creates sounds of sheer awesomeness. Their album was released on January 20, but I figured I should gives them their well deserved shout out by now. They have such a high strung tempo that would make anyone feel good.

They present themselves as a couple of rough but crazy beatniks from Brooklyn, New York and I find that their song style, being simplistic and fun at the same time makes each of their tunes catchy and enjoyable. You can catch them at various locations across the globe. Here’s just a few stops as shown on their myspace page http://www.myspace.com/mattandkim :

They’ll be playing at the Old Blue Last in Shoreditch, London on June 1, 2009

PARC Fest in Porto Alegre on June 5, 2009

They’ll be at the Clash Club on June 6, 2009 in Sao Paulo, Brazil

At La Trastienda on June 7, 2009 in Buenos Aires, Argentina

They’ll be playing at North By North East in Toronto, ON, Canada on June 19, 2009

Playing the House of Blues in Boston, MA, USA on June 18, 2009

And to round out June, they’ll be at the Rock and Roll Hotel, in Washington, D.C. on June 20, 2009

There are many more Matt and Kim shows that can be seen throughout July and August so check their myspace page or their own website http://www.mattandkimmusic.com for more information.

Here’s a couple of their music videos to enjoy as well, they’ve got a new found style for making music videos so I suggest just checking out these two as well as their other song Lessons Learned, when you get the chance.
