There is something special about the relationship My Chemical Romance has with their fans, and the relationship that their fans have with each other. Standing in line when I first got there, kids were walking up and down the line making new friends, talk amongst each other, sharing food & stories, and a few tents were set up as kids stuck it out over night in the hopes of getting a spot at the barricade. A lot of them were also dressed up as ‘Killjoys’ and some were dressed based on the Revenge & Black Parade eras. Watching these fans interact with each other was like seeing a family picnic in the park where everyone was having a good time waiting for doors to open.
Once inside you could see Kool Haus fill quite quickly due to the amount of people who waited most of the day in line. Hardly any of these fans went to the merch table and just ran to the barricade. As the night went on the venue got really hot from everyone being squished together, trying to get as close to the stage as possible before MCR came on. While setting up, one of the roadies brought out a small picture of Gerard’s daughter and placed it by the drum kit that was set up. As the lights dimmed and the band came out to their intro “Look Alive, Sunshine” everyone in the room went wild. When Frank came out, he also brought out a picture of his twin daughters and set them up behind him. It was great seeing them bring these pictures out and had them sitting on stage as if they were there.
As the night went on, it was like a big sing along and the energy felt through the crowd was unlike any other. This tour was different from their last, as instead of playing their new album from start to finish, they played a good mix of new and old songs, bringing back a few from the very first album. This had the fans go crazy since they’ve pulled these songs from their setlist for the past few tours. Through out the night Gerard’s stage presence was energizing and lead fans into singing song after song throughout the whole night, the rest of the band also did an amazing job at keeping everyone excited by constantly bouncing around all over the stage. Later in the night, Gerard also took the time to dedicate some songs to a fan named Christie which they had all met at the meet & greet a few hours before hand. It was really nice to see them do that. I personally have never seen a band dedicate a song at the show to a fan that they had just met, so it was pretty neat. Sound wise, you can tell that MCR have been in the music business a long time. They sounded really good, and had an excellent stage presence. All in all, these guys may have dropped the theatrical stage props, and crazy costumes but they’ve still got it, and with their dedicated army of fans, they are ready to take over the world!

My Chemical Romance is back, and they are better than ever! After taking 4 years to release a new album, MCR finally released Danger Days: The True Lives of The Fabulous Killjoys in November of last year. With this album, the band ditched the dark “emo” look that they have carried around since they released Three Cheers For Sweet Revenge in 2004, and came back with a burst of colour! With the new record in place, they set out on The World Contamination Tour, which hit Toronto last night at Kool Haus. If you are unfamiliar with this band, they are a group of guys from New Jersey and are well known for their crazy stage presence and costumes during their Black Parade Tour back in 2007. The band consists of brothers Gerard (vocals), and Mikey Way (bass), Frank Iero (guitar), Ray Toro (guitar) and their touring drummer Mike Pedicone who used to be in The Bled.
